Emergencies and Faults

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if there is a power cut?

For emergencies please contact ESB Network’s 24 hour emergency number on 1850 37 29 99. There is absolutely no change to your reliability of supply by switching to Waterpower. If the lines are down, the ESB repair those lines and restore supply as soon as possible regardless of who your electricity retailer is.

If your lights go out and your sockets fail, there could be a number of reasons:

  • Your trip switch may have been tripped (Up position is ON, Down position is OFF). This is the first thing to check.
  • ESB Networks may be doing works in your area. You would have received notice of this in the post. You can also check their online service here to find out if there are works in your area.
  • If you are using a pre-pay meter for your electricity supply you may have run out of credit or the system may be faulty

If you are concerned in any way about your supply you should contact ESB Networks directly using the details provided above. If you would like further information on safety regarding electricity for the home, business or farm please visit our electricity safety page
